چکیده

Ioka and Nakamura (2001) proposed a simple jet model which is compatible with the peak luminosity-spectral lag relation, the peak luminosity-variability relation and various other relations in the Gamma-Ray Bursts. If the viewing angle is much larger than the collimation angle of the jet in the model by Ioka and Nakamura, for appropriate model parameters we obtain the observational characteristics of the X-ray flashes such as the peak flux ratio and the fluence ratio between the γ-ray (50−300 keV) and the X-ray band (2−10 keV), the X-ray photon index, the typical duration and the event rate ∼ 100 yr−1. In our model if the distance to the X-ray flashes is much larger than ∼ 1 Gpc (or z ∼ 0.2) they are too dim to be observed so that the spatial distribution of the X-ray flashes should be homogeneous and isotropic. Peak Energy–Isotropic Energy Relation in the Off-Axis Gamma-Ray Burst Model

Using a simple uniform jet model of prompt emissions of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs), we reproduce the observed peak energy–isotropic energy relation. A Monte Carlo simulation shows that the low isotropic energy part of the relation is dominated by events viewed from off-axis directions, and the number of the off-axis events is about one-third of the on-axis emissions. We also compute the observed e...

X-ray flashes from off-axis nonuniform jets

It is widely believed that outflows of gamma-ray bursts are jetted. Some people also suggest that the jets may have structures like ǫ(θ) ∝ θ. We test the possibility of X-ray flashes coming from such jets in this paper. Both qualitative and quantitative analyses have shown that this model can reproduce most observational features for both X-ray flashes and gamma-ray bursts. Using common paramet...

Cosmological X-ray Flashes in the Off-Axis Jet Model

The 〈V/Vmax〉 of the cosmological X-ray flashes detected by Wide Field Cameras on BeppoSAX is calculted theoretically in a simple jet model. The total emission energy from the jet is assumed to be constant. We find that if the jet opening half-angle is smaller than 0.03 radian, the theoretical 〈V/Vmax〉 is less than ∼ 0.4, which is consistent with the recently reported observational value of 0.27...

The Importance of Off - Axis Beaming in Jet Models

— Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRBs) are widely thought to originate from collimated jets of material moving at relativistic velocities. Emission from such a jet should be visible even when viewed from outside the angle of collimation. Using Monte Carlo population synthesis methods and including the effects of this off-axis beaming, we can compare various GRB jet models against the global properties of ob...

On the nature of X-Ray Flashes in the SWIFT era

Aims. X-Ray Flashes (XRFs) are soft gamma-ray bursts whose nature is not clear. Their soft spectrum can be due to cosmological effects (high redshift), an off-axis view of the jet or can be intrinsic to the source. We use SWIFT observations to investigate different scenarios proposed to explain their origin. Methods. We have made a systematic analysis of the afterglows of XRFs with known redshi...
